WOMEN

At EZMA, all patients have their space, although women, due to the changes they undergo throughout their lives, have a special place. From menarche, with all its implications, to menopause. That's why we've created a special program for one of the most vital stages, where we can feel most vulnerable: pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period. With our comprehensive approach, based on a biopsychosocial focus, we aim to offer you a comprehensive approach designed for physical, metabolic, and mental well-being.

What is our goal?

Our main goal is to provide you with a safe and nurturing space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported. We want to help you experience this pregnancy fully and happily, strengthening your emotional well-being and preparing you for the arrival of your baby.

WEEK 12-16 PREGNANCY

Congratulations, you've made it through the first trimester! During this time, we'll assess your well-being through physical therapy, physiogenomics/nutrition, and psychology. This will consist of two visits: one with our psychology specialist and another with our physical therapy and physiogenomics specialist.

What should you expect from this first psychology session?

This is a very special time in your life, full of changes and emotions. We want to be by your side to support you and provide the support you need. Our psychological consultations are a space for you, where you can talk openly about how you feel and address any concerns you may have.

What will we talk about in the sessions?

In these weeks, we'll explore together how you're experiencing this stage. We're interested in knowing how you're feeling emotionally, if you've noticed any changes in your mood, or if you've experienced anxiety or stress.

We'll also talk about how you're adapting to the physical changes you're experiencing, even if they're still minor. We want to know if you're comfortable with your body and how you're experiencing this transformation.

A very important topic will be to discuss your expectations for motherhood. How do you imagine yourself as a mother? What do you expect from this new stage? Together, we'll explore your ideas, beliefs, and fears so you can navigate this process more consciously and calmly.

As your baby grows, it's natural to begin to feel more present with him. We'd love to hear how you're connecting with him, how you imagine him. This is a beautiful time to strengthen that bond and prepare for his arrival.

We'll also spend time talking about your support network. Do you have people who offer you love, understanding, and support? How does this support impact your emotional well-being? Identifying and strengthening these networks can be extremely helpful during pregnancy and parenting.

If you've had previous pregnancies, we'd like to hear about your experiences. Was there anything that left a mark on you or that you'd like to share? Exploring these experiences together can be very helpful in navigating this new pregnancy with more confidence and positivity.

Finally, we'll talk about how you're managing stress in your life. Are there situations that worry you or cause you anxiety? You'll learn tools and strategies to manage stress and take care of your emotional well-being.

And in physiotherapy or physiogenomics, what do we do in this first session?

Your body begins to change, your baby grows, and so does yours. We'll assess whether your body pattern is adapting properly and create personalized guidelines for your body care and pelvic floor.

We'll talk about your sleep, eating, and exercise habits. We'll address any questions you may have and prepare your body for labor. We'll incorporate exercises and stretches tailored to your needs.

If there's pain in any aspect of your life, we'll address it. We'll also review your first trimester results together and suggest different nutritional options to improve if you have any deficiencies, such as iron deficiency or symptoms like nausea, providing advice to help you have a healthy pregnancy.

The objectives we will review throughout these sessions will be:

• Musculoskeletal pain, especially in the lumbar, dorsal and cervical areas, due to postural changes and weight gain.
• Overload on the pelvis, which can cause pain in the pubis, coccyx, and hips.
• Circulatory disorders, such as tired legs, swelling in hands and feet, or tingling sensations.
• Pressure on the diaphragm, which can make breathing difficult and promote gastric reflux.
• Irritation of the sciatic nerve, which causes discomfort in the lower back and legs.
• Pelvic floor dysfunctions, including urinary incontinence, pain during sexual intercourse, or difficulty properly activating the perineal muscles.

Week 20-24 of Pregnancy

We focus on the expectant mother's emotional well-being and her preparation for motherhood. After the initial physical therapy and psychological assessment, changes or exercises were suggested, which we will now go into more detail about.
In this second session of physical therapy, we will continue with manual therapy and osteopathy, strengthening the pelvis, relieving tension, and improving pelvic floor awareness. We will offer proprioception core exercises and Winner Flow to strengthen our invisible girdle, which supports our baby, protects our pelvic floor, and helps us reach optimal birth conditions to empower ourselves during pushing.
We will continue to work on any symptoms that have appeared to alleviate them and suggest postural hygiene measures or dietary changes that will help us face the next half of the pregnancy ahead.

What can you expect from your second session with our psychologist?

We will pay special attention to the woman's emotional state, including detecting possible symptoms of anxiety or depression. Acceptance of bodily changes and the woman's self-image are also important topics.

The bond with the developing baby grows stronger as the mother feels its movements, so this emotional connection is explored. Expectations about childbirth and parenting are also addressed, identifying any fears or concerns.

Family dynamics and relationships are also assessed, as the arrival of a baby can generate changes in these areas. The social support a woman receives is another important factor for her emotional well-being.

Finally, we explore how the woman is preparing to assume her role as a mother, both emotionally and in terms of organization and planning. If she has previous experiences of miscarriage or difficult births, we provide a space to address their emotional impact on the current pregnancy.

Week 30-32 of Pregnancy

During these weeks, we're only scheduled to continue with physiotherapy. This consultation, in addition to continuing with all the aforementioned work, will include perineal massage. We'll explain its benefits, dispel misconceptions, and answer any questions. We'd love for the couple to come to this consultation so they can learn it together, and you can continue the treatment at home whenever you'd like, respecting the woman's time and preferences.
If the baby is not yet in the cephalic position, we would work on the tensions in the pelvis and abdomen through osteopathy, helping the baby find its way, with the intention of maintaining the physiology of the pregnancy itself.

Week 36-38 of Pregnancy

Psychoeducation in breastfeeding weeks

If any relevant aspects have been identified that need to be addressed, the work started in the previous psychology sessions will be continued.
The focus will be an educational session with our IBCLC aimed at empowering mothers by providing knowledge and inspiring confidence for successful breastfeeding.

During this session we will address:

– The grip technique to be effective from the start.
– Natural behavior of the newborn
– Raising doubts and concerns.

We also have a final two-hour combined physical therapy session, which we like to call BIRTH AND LIFE, where we'll address pain during labor, address any questions you may have about the different types of birth, and focus on the role of your birth companion. We'll continue working with physical therapy on pelvic release, discuss postpartum care, postural hygiene, and provide advice on immediate postpartum indications that, as mothers, we know may arise, so you can have the tools to address them, facilitating optimal recovery.

POSTPARTUM

BREASTFEEDING SESSION UPON HOSPITAL DISCHARGE – 24/72 HOURS POSTPARTUM

What is reviewed in a breastfeeding session?

Each session analyzes how breastfeeding is working for both the baby and the mother. Various factors that may influence the process are discussed, and solutions are offered if necessary.

Baby

• Sucking style: We check the mouth and latching style to ensure that the child can feed properly.
• Position and grip: Observe whether the baby is positioned correctly and whether their grip is correct, as this prevents discomfort and improves feeding.
• Suction rhythm and strength: This test analyzes whether your suction is effective and constant.
• Hunger signals: The signals given before, during and after eating are identified.
• Growth: Weight is monitored to ensure that the baby is receiving enough milk.

Mother

• Breast condition: Check for any discomfort, such as cracks or inflammation, that could affect breastfeeding.
• Breastfeeding comfort: The mother is assessed to see if she is in a comfortable position that allows her to breastfeed without pain.
• Milk production: Sufficient milk production is assessed, and advice is offered on how to maintain or increase it.
• Emotional state: Support is provided if the mother feels tired, frustrated, or worried about breastfeeding.
Mother-Baby Bond
• Connection between both: It is observed how they interact, since a good connection facilitates the process.
• Response to the baby's needs: Analyzes how the mother interprets and responds to her child's signals.
Environment and Support
• Breastfeeding environment: Check if the space is quiet and comfortable.
• Support network: Resources such as breastfeeding groups or specialized counseling are discussed.
The goal of these sessions is to help both the baby and the mother have a more comfortable, effective, and enjoyable breastfeeding experience.

6 WEEKS POSTPARTUM

Final checkup with our physical therapist. We'll meet with the baby in its extrauterine life, as you're invited to come accompanied. We'll adapt to the needs of both of you. We'll discuss the birth process in depth, including your feelings and perceptions. During a thorough medical history, we'll assess the state of your pelvic system and floor, and then on the table, we can assess your overall well-being. Working as a team, we'll take into account the feedback we received from the postpartum breastfeeding session and adapt breast work if necessary.

This program is designed to offer you maximum well-being and prevention, with an approach completely tailored to your needs as a mother. We know how important it is to take care of yourself during this stage, which is why we have created a comprehensive plan specifically for you, which includes:

• 2 Psychology sessions: To help you manage emotional changes and enjoy your motherhood to the fullest.
• 4 Physiotherapy sessions: Focused on relieving discomfort and preventing future ailments, with specialized techniques for your well-being.
• 1 special 2-hour Life and Pain session: A more in-depth treatment for specific issues that may arise and an educational talk on coping with pain during childbirth.
• 2 Breastfeeding Consultations: We support you throughout the breastfeeding process, ensuring that it is a satisfying experience for you and your baby.

All of this has been thought out and designed by our team, made up entirely of mothers who have experienced and understood the needs of this stage. We've created this program with the same sessions we would have loved to receive ourselves. And best of all, if at any time you need more support or have a specific condition, we'll be happy to adapt the program for you, adjusting the sessions to suit your needs outside of this program.

We want you to feel supported and accompanied, no matter what happens.
This program is an investment in your well-being, both physical and emotional, so you can enjoy your motherhood with the peace of mind of knowing you're in good hands. We're here to help you feel better every day. In keeping with that commitment, we've created this program with a fixed price of €450, allowing you to benefit from a significant discount compared to individual sessions.
